The 1975, CRUISR, Young Rising Sons, Southside Ballroom, Nov 24, 2014

DALLAS – November 24, The 1975, a indie rock band from Manchester, UK, made a stop in Dallas, Texas at the South Side Ballroom. This was a great venue for the show, intimate enough to get the full experience, yet large enough to fit the seemingly endless sea of cheering fans, some of whom had been waiting outside the venue for almost 24 hours prior to the doors opening. The opening acts, Young Rising Sons and CRUISR, set the tone for the rest of the evening, leaving the audience on their toes waiting anxiously for The 1975 to make their appearance.

The stage stood empty for what seemed an eternity with a quiet ambient chord being played over the sound system. For about ten minutes, no one paid any attention to the slow crescendo of the chord until it became so loud that you couldn’t hold a conversation without shouting. Moments later, The 1975 made their grand entrance. Front-man Matt Healy with a bottle of beer in hand led the group opening their set with “The City”, insinuating joyous screams from the predominantly female crowd.

The show was consistently high energy and fun to watch as Healy sauntered back and forth on the stage, stealing the hearts of everyone. At one point, in response to the overwhelming amount of phones in the air, Healy requested that everyone put them away and just enjoy the show without distraction. It was a moment that took many of the concert goers by surprise. However, when the sea of phones disappeared, the energy in the room changed for the better. The crowd began to dance and it truly seemed like they were enjoying themselves.

The band closed the show with encore performances of their two most popular songs, “Robbers” and “Sex.” Overall, this show was not one to be missed. If you get the chance to see The 1975, get your tickets and go. You won’t regret it.
