EDGEFEST 2014 GOES OUT WITH A BANG WITH HEADLINER BECK
Reveling back to 1992 for the first-ever Edgefest, one can only imagine what the anticipation might have held with the lineup for such an amazing event. This year marks the 24th annual edition of Edgefest hosted by 102.1 FM The Edge. The event, spanning two stages and more than a dozen bands, boasts such great names as headliner Beck, Bastille, Kongos, Cage the Elephant, and many more.
Over the course of a slightly blustery yet temperate day, the stadium filled with fans of all ages. Tweens, teens, and twenty-somethings on up were milling about anxiously awaiting their favorite bands to take the stage. A local band started the afternoon off allowing everyone an opportunity to get settled in for the best spot in the house. Slowly as the day wore on the atmosphere in the stadium started to rise.
Once balanced atop the tent at midfield, one shoe on, Rutherford shouted, “We did it!”
Near the end of The NBHD’s set, Jesse Rutherford made several attempts at crowd surfing. Not one to give in to failure he made one last attempt demanding the crowd to carry him to mid-field. He bobbed up and down, disappearing at times along the way, cheering on the crowd to ‘keep going’, ‘were almost there’. Once balanced atop the tent at midfield, one shoe on, Rutherford shouted, “We did it!”
Later in the day, Bastille frontman Dan Smith jumped from the stage to take a lengthy tromp through the crowd down field then winded around up through stadium seating, out to the main concourse back down to the stage ready to perform the band’s current hit, Pompeii.
Another act sure to get in on the antics was New Politics, a pop-punk group. Vocalist David Boyd was the risk taker of the group standing in the crowd and at one point actually standing on the crowd at the edge of the stage.
Cage the Elephant and Beck finished off the evening with huge sounds delighting the entire crowd making the day-long event worth the ‘fight’.
