Burning Man 2016: Da Vinci’s Workshop

DALLAS, TX (June 5, 2016) – According to Burning Man’s Facebook page, “Once a year, dreamers and doers gather from around the world to create Black Rock City in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, celebrating art, self-expression, radical self-reliance and community. They leave one week later, having left no trace whatsoever. The experience, and the culture that is generated by it, is Burning Man.

This year’s theme, entitled Da Vinci’s Workshop, encompasses the Italian Renaissance of the middle fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries.  As reported on Burning Man Journal, “Our story will focus on the republic of Florence, for it was here, in a city-state of about the same size and population as Black Rock City, that humanist ideals, a rediscovery of science, and funding from a newly moneyed class of entrepreneurs fueled a revolutionary cultural movement that redefined Western civilization. Five centuries later, we will attempt to recreate this potent social alchemy by combining Burning Man art, maker culture and creative philanthropy to make Black Rock City the epicenter of a new renaissance.”

Preparation for each year begins months in advance and 2016 is no exception.  Just as the event planners meticulously plot and plan every detail, so must participants.  Festival goers will travel from all over the country to attend the nine day event, just to be a part of something monumental.  Set in Black Rock Desert, NV, where a temporary metropolis is constructed, Black Rock City, the temperatures are as diverse as attendees.  Temps can get upward of 100 degrees during the day while they dip to the low 40’s at night.  One must be prepared and the Burning Man website has a fantastic host of resources for all participants, whether it’s your first time, third time or with kids.  Check out all the available information here.
