BLACK MILK, GASAGASA, New Orleans

WMGASA (10 of 12)NEW ORLEANS – Hailing from Detroit Michigan, Curtis Cross a.k.a. “BLACK MILK” made a stop in New Orleans on his way home from performing at SXSW.  In the game since 2001 era, he cites some of his influences as J. Dilla, Easy Mo Bee, Pete Rock, Questlove, A Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul.

Those influences came to light throughout his performance at New Orleans’ own GASAGASA.  An intimate space known by all in the city to feature some of the most up and coming acts in a small vibe aesthetic that is hard to beat.

As smooth as BLACK MILKS savvy wordplay and performance was it was equally matched by his backing band, no DJ for this cat.  The Nat Turner Band held it down in place of the 1’s and 2’s for this show.  Live, funky, melodic beats set the soundtrack for a great hip-hop throwdown at GASAGASA.

Other acts included Tony Wilson w/ DJ RQ Away, wsg, Slangston Hughes & Fo on the Flo, STEFAN, RODO and finally Sinc1.
