Metalachi hits Dallas for Cinco De Mayo at Gas Monkey Bar and Grill

5602SDALLAS – Metalachi fans, better known as Metalachi Nation, packed the Gas Monkey Bar and Grill on May 2 to start off their Cinco De Mayo celebration appropriately titled, Drinko De Mayo.  They came from far and wide to catch a glimpse of their favorite heavy metal mariachi band.  Some even dressed for the occasion, complete with sombreros and face paint.  One Metalachi Nation fan went so far as to have ‘Metalachi’ airbrush tattooed on her “chi chi’s”.

Metalachi, self-proclaimed as the world’s first and only heavy metal mariachi band, visit Texas a few timesDSC_6176 a year.  Their “history” spans back to “a hot summer night in Veracruz Mexico circa 1982”.  As is told on their website, all of the band members are “brothers”, born the same day by the same woman.  Hoping for a better life, their mother packed them all in saddle bags of a burro and sent them off to find a better life in America.  Fourteen years later just yards from the Mexico/US border, the brothers made their journey to America.

The story continues of the amazing circumstances that led them to find heavy metal as a “teacher” and a “friend” over the years as they grew up.  The “brothers” currently reside in California, touring the US as the world’s first and only heavy metal mariachi band.

DSC_5901Every show is uniquely different in that it is filled with outrageous costumes, on stage antics, various personas and banter between songs.  The band features, Vegas De La Rockha on vocals, Pepe Pantera on violin, El Cucuy on trumpet, Paco Halen on guitar and Nacho Picante on gutairron and manager/hype man Warren Moscow.  One can expect to hear heavy metal from such artists as AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Ozzy Ozborne, Dio, Metallica, Van Halen, Slayer and even Whitesnake using traditional mariachi instruments.

Admittedly, the concept of a ‘heavy metal mariachi band’ might be hard to fathom, however, once you experience Metalachi, you will understand.  It will be a night to remember!
