Agoraphobic Nosebleed! (New album coming THIS WEEK!)

Agoraphobic Nosebleed aren’t exactly strangers to experimenting with their sound. 2009’s Agorapocalypse Now saw the band move from the ultra short blasts of aural insanity of Altered States of America to lengthier songs that sound like a lost thrashcore band. It also saw the addition of Kat Katz, adding possibly the harshest vocals the band has ever had and giving the songs a fantastic new dimension.

It should come as no surprise then that the band’s new EP, Arc, is a 27 minute affair that sees the band getting sludgier and filthier than ever. The first of four albums, with each being overseen by a different band member, is being headed by Katz. Now if you expect something similar to Salome when I say “Katz” and “doom” that close together, you should know that you’re in for something totally different. The album’s first track, courtesy of NPR, sees Scott Hull riff and groove like he’s been hanging out with Kirk Windstein on his days off.

It will be interesting to see if any of these songs find their way into the bands live sets in the upcoming year. They’re confirmed for Netherlands Deathfest, where Hull and John Jarvis will be pulling double duty with ANb and Pig Destroyer (or PxDx if you want to keep with the abbreviation theme). My neck and I certainly wouldn’t mind a number like “Not A Daughter” in the set as I’m pretty sure I wrecked my C5 trying to keep up and headbang along. Getting old sucks.

In addition to the release of Arc, January 22nd will see the reissue of ANb masterworks Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Dope (my personal favorite) and Altered States of America on vinyl for the first time in over ten years. You can preorder them and an awesome coffee mug here
