DR. JOHN TROMBONE SHORTY & ORLEANS AVENUE HEADLINE BEDFORD BLUES & BBQ

BEDFORD,TX(August 25, 2016) – The blues legends lead an impressive roster that includes Tommy Castro & the Pain Killers, Janiva Magness and a host of local talent. Area musicians including The Stratoblasters, Mike Morgan & The Crawl, Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat, Bnois King Band, Tutu Jones & His Twisted Soul Band, Pat Boyack, Joey Love, EJ Matthews, and Dylan Bishop will be playing throughout the festival.

The jam-packed event swings into full gear Saturday afternoon and culminates with an evening lineup featuring contemporary blues artist Tommy Castro. The California guitarslinger and his band The Painkillers will rock the main stage at 7:45 p.m.

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue closes out Saturday night’s showcase at 9:15 p.m. The New Orleans native will bring his crescent city jazz/funk/blues sound that’s thrilled audiences in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Japan, Russia and Brazil.

The hits continue when Janiva Magness and Dr. John take the reins on Sunday. Magness has a rich, soulful voice that earned her Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year in 2009. The Detroit native performs at 7:45 p.m.

Dr. John makes his inaugural Bedford appearance at 9:15 p.m. The six-time Grammy award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee brings his Mardi Gras madness – a funky mix of New Orleans R&B, boogie-woogie and rock’n’roll, to close out the festival.

While this savory musical gumbo simmers on stage, pit masters from around the world will be cooking in a Kansas City Barbecue Society competition. The Bedford cook off is a nationally recognized event that’s been featured on several TV shows including BBQ Pitmasters and other reality series in the U.S and Canada. It hosts a heated field of world class competitors including multiple BBQ Pitmaster contestants. Guests can sample the very best these pros have to offer at the People’s Choice Event and Battle of the BBQ 3-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
