George THOROGOOD and The DESTROYERS take on Big D

DALLAS – On an unseasonably warm and balmy March 1st, Rock legends George Thorogood and the Destroyers came to town for a one-night-only performance at the city’s historic Majestic Theatre.small_4775

Opening the show at the ninety-six year old venue, was another one of Rock’s treasures, Edgar Winter and his band.

small_7371Edgar came out in full form and played a solid forty minute set, which included covers, originals and even a freestyle/scat-man interlude that evolved into a duel of sorts between Edgar and his bass player and Edgar and his guitarist; the audience ate up every second of it.

small_4746Edgar was the first musician to put straps on a keyboard, making it as mobile as an electric guitar. He proudly toted his Korg up and down the stage’s skirt for several songs. Edgar closed his set with perhaps his best-known song, “Frankenstein”.

Next up was the man and the band that nearly two thousand people had come to see. The man that epitomizes “rock ‘n roll”, Mr. George Thorogood and the Destroyers.

smll_7445From the moment they hit the stage, the band had the sort of commanding control of the house that’s reserved for musicians of the highest caliber. These guys were true pros; seasoned vets and they knew how to play to the crowd.

RRJ_14nw_SML4852It was difficult not to be awestruck by the greatness that graced that stage that Tuesday night at the Majestic. It was truly a sight to behold. George and his Destroyers played a lengthy set of his classics and even stretched a few tunes out to include solo respites as he introduced each member of the band.

He closed his monumental performance with an extended version of “Bad to the Bone”, and with that, there were more people standing than the security could tell to sit down. The entire house was on it’s feet, dancing, swaying and singing along. What a way to cap off a truly extraordinary evening!
