GLASS ANIMALS ANNOUNCE NEW SONG “YOUTH”

GLASS ANIMALS SET TO PERFORM ON JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! AUGUST 30th
AND LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS
SEPTEMBER 19TH

SPECIAL FAN SHOW AT BROOKLYN’S HOUSE OF YES TONIGHT

(July 26, 2016) – Following the success of ‘Life Itself,’ Glass Animals announce hypnotic new song and video ‘Youth’ from their hotly anticipated sophomore album How To Be A Human Being. The album will be released August 26th via Harvest Records and is available for pre-order now. NPR has featured “Youth” as one of their “Songs We Love,” declaring “it blends perky, high-pitched synths with rich R&B drums.”

How To Be a Human Being is a bold departure, lyrically and sonically, from the band’s debut Zaba. Having written and produced the album, lead singer Dave Bayley pushed the project towards something heavier, grittier and rawer both in sound and subject matter. Many of Dave’s lyrical ideas came from live recordings of people saved on his phone, as if he’d been operating as some sort of roaming journalist all this time. Dave notes, “People tell you some amazing things when they don’t think they’re ever gonna see you again,” and these voice notes sparked ideas for characters that Dave developed, writing an album like a TV screenwriter might approach a script. “Youth” and its accompanying visuals are typical of this, telling one of the stories that resonated with Dave the most. Dave explains:

“Someone told me a story about her son once that was one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard. What she said was completely heartbreaking, but she told it with such optimism and such a sense of calm. She was on the verge of crying, but she was also smiling and something in her face said that she had found a way to be happy again. This song is trying to get at that sentiment.”

The band will celebrate the release of How To Be A Human Being with an outdoor concert performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! August 30th, and will return to the stage where they made their TV debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers September 19th. The band have just completed a series of US tour dates and festival appearances, and will play a surprise sold-out show for their fans at House of Yes in Brooklyn tonight. The band will embark on a headlining North American tour this fall, including 2 nights at NYC’s Terminal 5 and a night at LA’s renowned Greek Theatre (see full list of dates below).

Glass Animals and Harvest Records have also announced an exclusive vinyl pre-order for How To Be A Human Being in partnership with US independent record stores. The band have pressed a limited edition 7″ available to fans who pre-order the new album on vinyl at their local participating independent record store, and they will launch the vinyl pre-order with a special signing at NYC’s Rough Trade at 6pm tonight (while supplies last). The 7″ will come in a white sleeve and will feature two tracks, first single “Life Itself” and brand new single “Youth.” These 7″ records are hand stamped with the band’s logo, individually hand numbered and limited to 2,000 copies. All participating stores and details on how to reserve one of these 7″ can be found here: http://www.carolinestorefinder.com/GlassAnimals/”

Glass Animals’ debut single ‘Life Itself’ was recently named one of “10 Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing” by NPR and was pronounced “the sort of stomping, globe-trotting hit you’d want to release for the summer. The chorus will slip and slide through your ears with ease, so watch out,” by Consequence of Sound. The track has over 5.5 million streams on Spotify and is approaching top 20 at alternative radio. It is currently #2 on Sirius XM AltNations’ Alt-18 countdown for the fourth week in a row, spending its 10th week on the countdown.

The band’s debut Zaba, released on Harvest Records, has sold nearly half a million copies worldwide and amassed over 200 million Spotify streams.
