Glitch Mob, EMPROM and Naysayer, NOLA

NEW ORLEANS, LA – No stranger to New Orleans, Glitch Mob was in town for the southern leg of their current tour in support of their new EP “Piece of the Indestructible”. Working social media like pro’s running up to the show, holding various scavenger hunts for tickets with clues like.”clue number 2 hiding under Ooah’s favorite shady spot” and “follow the smell of the best beignets in town” any New Orleans local was within reach of a pair of tickets.

AF the Naysayer, opening the night for the Glitch Mob in New Orleans, Aug 30th 2015. A beat craftsman. Armed with only a midi pad, a pc, and a synth, Naysayer took the crowd on a hiphop journey. Cutting up fresh tracks, all self produced, and remixed live. The crowd was digging it, evident by the heads bobbing in unison. All positive vibes from this future hiphop icon.

What came next can only be described as BASSMUSIC, EMPROM assaulted us with vocal-less bass madness, tunes guaranteed to void the warranty of any trunk or hatchback. Track after track of brain shaking bass music. The crowd was going absolutely nuts for EPROM. My eardrums, absolutely devastated.

Hidden beneath a black tarp, we all knew, was the blade. Waiting. Unrelenting streams of smoke billowing out from underneath the dark shroud. So much smoke in fact that it tripped the fire alarm sensors well over 75 feet away and on the ceiling of this massive theater. Unfortunately, this caused a few of the fire protection systems to switch off what seemed to be a few of the main circuits powering the multiple stacks of speakers and the “instrument” of choice for the Glitch Mob, “The Blade”.

An hour of silence did little to ease the growing tension in the crowd. Just as swiftly as the lights went dark, the black shroud covering the Blade was pulled back revealing in the monstrosity in all of it’s glitched out glory. Three stations, one for each member, equipped with what seemed to be a custom midi pad and a never before seen custom interface used to trigger loops and samples connected to another yet unknown piece of hardware that ties it all together to make the magic happen. Blinding arrays of LEDS emitted beams from every nook and cranny of what seemed to be an arcane medieval torture device fused with 21st century instruments by the hand of lucifer himself.

Turning an already 10 crowd into an 11 was an easy task for The Glitch Mob. Filling the air with the best and near complete renditions of “Love Death Immortality” & “Piece of the Indestructible”, we had a taste of what I consider to the be 2 of the best GM albums to date. Conducting a near flawless performance, the New Orleans show was one not to be missed. Thanks Glitch Mob.
