DALLAS, TX – “Hoooowdeeee, fooolllllks!”  Big Tex, the 55-foot tall cowboy welcomes you to the 2015 State Fair of Texas.

With 24 days of activities including live music, pig races, auto show, dog shows, delicious food, stock show, great food, zuzu African acrobats and amazing food…and…much much more. And did we mention the food?

Of all the forms of entertainment, being able to taste the culinary options at the Fair is like traveling to the land of the insane delicious flavors, a place that you want to stay and never leave. That’s the feeling that the winners of the Big Tex choice awards give you with the 11th annual fair food competition.

This year, the winner for the “best tasting was Fernie’s Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly. A 35 minute line to get it was no big deal once you try the first bite of this golden-baked bread swirled with cinnamon and filled with moist carrot cake, plump raisins and crunchy julienned carrots. It’s rolled with a light coating of cream cheese and then breaded in a mixture of panko, graham crackers, cinnamon and nutmeg. To give it a final epic taste, it’s served with extra caramel on the side as well as a caramel macchiato cream sauce.

You will be tempted to buy another one, but that’s not the best choice with so many options. The best plan is to eat and share so you have some space for the next amazing creation. Such as the winner of the “most creative”, the Smoky Bacon Margarita! An unconventional pairing of flavors adds a subtle smoky taste to a traditionally tangy drink. A combination of smoky bacon with a frozen lime margarita!

If experimenting with new flavors is not your preferred choice, you can always spend your day playing the classic fair games and hopefully win an 8-foot rainbow-colored gorilla or a Scooby Doo twice the size of you (if you are a kid). The question is “How are you going to put that inside your car and take it home?? That’s something to worry about later; the purpose of playing is to win and to win big.

For our first experience at the fair, it was something unique and remarkable. Unfortunately, we went on a Sunday on the last weekend of the fair, so eight hours wasn’t’ enough to do it all. Luckily, it’s happening again next year and for sure we will be anxiously waiting to do more, eat more, and photograph more!

See y’all soon
