Innaguaral Dallas Music District Festival attendance hit hard by impending weather
DALLAS – Dallas Music District(DMD) first annual festival, riding on the coat tails of the Trinity River Wind Festival probably, should have followed suit when they cancelled due to inclement weather and flooding. While media, vendors and all scheduled musicians showed for what was hoped to be the first of many annual DMD Festivals, the patrons did not. Festival workers, vendors and band members made up the bulk of the attendance. At times some of the musicians were performing for only 5-6 people; including media, but kudos to them for performing as if there were 10,000.
Visiting the vendor booths at least gave them some media attention since the patron attention was bleak at best. The Disclothesure, Billy Jealousy, Sushi & Queso Designs, Shop Meadow Lane, Lindsey Owen Custom Jewelry, Qi Elements Spa, Mistura, Dec3Arts, Anukah Accessories, Ashleigh Abbott Jewelry Designs, Artigianale, Sunshine Tienda, Steel City Popsicles and Samson’s Gourmet Hot Dogs and Ben and Jerry’s Texas Tour of Ice Cream all had booths set up and ready to go just had no one to sell. Probably the most successful vendor was Samson’s Gourmet Hot Dogs. Samson’s fed everyone and kept the beer cold. Needless to say Samson’s, Steel City Popsicles and Dec3Arts were the only vendors that returned on Sunday.
The bands provided a variety of music genres to appeal to the masses–or at least for the few that attended. Lev, Mean Motor Scooter, Jessie Frye, Aaron Behrens and the Midnight Stroll, Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights, Leah Palmer, Barron Brothers Gollay, Somebody’s Darling, Leopold & His Fiction, Mothxr, Nite, Dome Dwellers, Sales, Dreamers, Mainland, Donald Cummings, Ishi, Marc Swafford, Quentin Moore and The Phantom Sensations all performed as scheduled. Arcattack, while not a band, was scheduled to close the event on both Saturday and Sunday, however, Saturday evening proved impossible for Arcattack without a spark due to stage and set up issues leaving them incapacitated. Those that returned on Sunday were able the main attraction of their performance which is the use of two custom built Tesla coils that play musical notes by modulating the spark output.
Needless to say, the current state of the city from flooding, the imminent forecast for even more rain, as well as the last minute location change, the DMD Festival did not have a successful first year. Better luck next year DMD.
