JUKEBOX THE GHOST, RACHEL PLATTEN AND X AMBASSADORS STARTED MUSIKFEST WITH A BANG
Musikfest’s opening night concert at the SteelSands Stage, in Bethlehem, Pa was a feast for the eyes as well as the ears, with an amazing light show unique to each artist. Jukebox the Ghost opened with their “power pop” sound that left the audience with a smile on their faces and primed for Rachel Platten.
As Rachel took the stage, she charmed everyone with her songs full of self-affirming lyrics and a dazzling smile. She confessed early on that she was having a particularly tough night, as she was losing someone close to her. Yet she pushed through and gave a wonderful performance. Later searching found it was her elderly grandmother.
Finally, X Ambassadors appeared and set it on fire, with bass pounding songs that don’t just fit into one genre, from the hip hop influenced “Jungle” to the fun quirkiness of “Naked”. They finished the night up with their well-known “Renegades”, preceded by a short chat from Sam Harris to the audience encouraging everyone to fight for what is right and happy, then a one song encore of “Unconsolable”.
