AUSTIN, Texas — Bluebonnet buds are already being spotted in Texas’ hill country, which means spring is just around the corner — and so is the 29th annual Old Settler’s Music Festival. The four-day festival, featuring more than 30 of the finest talents on the American roots music scene, takes place Thursday through Sunday, April 14-17, 2016, at the Salt Lick Pavilion and Camp Ben McCulloch in Driftwood, just south of Austin. The performance schedule, listed below, features Grammy winners Rodney Crowell, The Del McCoury Band and The Earls of Leicester, along with Hayes Carll, The Milk Carton Kids, The Band of Heathens, Dawes, Bob Schneider, The Jayhawks, Della Mae, Sarah Jarosz and many other legends and rising stars.
Discounted ticket packages (with and without camping) and single-day wristband vouchers are still available, but they’re going fast. For tickets, go to oldsettlersmusicfest.org.
This year’s lineup also includes The HillBenders’ not-to-be-missed performance of “The Who’s Tommy: A Bluegrass Opry,” The Jay Farrar (Trio), The Black Lillies, Shinyribs, The Wood Brothers and fast-rising Houston band The Suffers. On Friday evening, Jenni Finlay will read passages from Kent Finlay, Dreamer, the biography of her father, founder of the legendary songwriters’ breeding ground Cheatham Street Warehouse. She and co-author Brian T. Atkinson will sign festival-purchased copies of the book and companion CD afterward. And this year, The Bluegrass Situation, the virtual roots-music community and media collective founded by actor/comedian/picker Ed Helms, joins the festival as presenter of Saturdays Discovery (workshop) stage.
Artist profiles, performance times and other useful info can be accessed on the free Old Settler’s app for iPhone and Android, available via iTunes and Google Play
