Psychostick, Deep Ellum’s Curtain Club, May 9

DALLAS – May 9th had its perks in Deep Ellum. One of which, was its Deep Ellum social in which bands filled a majority of bars and clubs that night.  However, there was one club that was more epic than the rest.  That was the Curtain Club on Main Street.   Psychostick headlined the Curtain Club at a set time of 11:20 p.m. and it worth the wait.  A humor inducing introduction, great sound, and the bands signature look.

Vocalist Rawrb decked out in his rainbow, pointy, hat… thing, bassist Matty donning his moose antler hat, guitarist Josh sporting his bandana, and drummer Alex “the boy” dressed like… well… Alex.  Everyone in the band that night was hilarious in their own ways.  Rawrb with his borderline awkward, yet mesmerizing body movements with the song, Josh head banging like there’s no tomorrow, Matty with his big grin and great backup vocals and sneaky jokes, and Alex being absolutely on point with his playing that you can’t really make fun of him.

Everyone had an outstanding performance.  So much so that you just wanted to look them straight in the nose and say “pluh”. Rawrb’s performance, both singing and entertaining the crowd, was solid and expected.  Josh had solid picking technique and was definitely having fun on “Obey the Beard” and “BEER!”  Matty was amazing; being able to play with a solid presence and have accuracy was definitely something to be appreciated.   Alex was like a machine.  He was on point, but was very fluid and seemed to be having a blast behind his beat laboratory.  The crowd enjoyed themselves throughout the set, sang along to a few then went crazy and yelled along when Psychostick played their anthem “BEER!” I’m almost positive the line “BEER IS GOOD” was heard throughout Deep Ellum last night.
