Royal Blood opens for Foo Fighters at Susquehanna Bank Center

CAMDEN, NJ – After a leg injury to frontman David Grohl caused Foo Fighters to cancel seven of their European tour dates, including a headlining night at Glastonbury Festival.  They came back state side to kick off the first part of their North American leg of the Sonic Highways tour.  Opening up for their July 6th show date at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey was Royal Blood.  The rock duo from Brighton, England has been steadily climbing in notoriety and earning praise from people like Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, self-proclaimed ‘king of all media’ Howard Stern, and even Grohl himself who has stated that he liked what he saw and heard from Royal Blood’s Glastonbury show the year previously, and that was pretty much what led him to invite them to be an opener on this tour.

One of the most often spoken compliments about Royal Blood is that it’s hard to believe that such a great sound can come from only two guys, that being Mike Kerr (lead vocals, bass guitar) and Ben Thatcher (drums).  Opening up the show with the fast, loud, and seemingly chaotic “Come On Over”, for those in attendance that were unaware of Royal Blood, I’m sure their introduction to them seemed to be something like a kick in the chest. Followed up with the slower and more methodical “You Can Be So Cruel”, you can hear the influence of a vintage rock band. Sure not to leave out a few of their more notable and chart-topping singles like “Out of the Black”, “Figure It Out”, and a #1 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart “Little Monster”, all of which are on their self-titled debut album that was released in March of 2014 and has since gone platinum.

You can still catch them with Foo Fighters on their stops around North America, but I recommend you catch them any chance you can. With their expanding success and quickly rising popularity, this will be one tough ticket to get when they come back around on their own headlining tour.
