Sharon Marie Baker, House of Blues, Dallas

By Ryan Javier

DALLAS – The crowd began to roar as sixteen year old Sharon Marie Baker took to the stage at the dimly lit House of Blue Dallas last night.  Her eclectic style of pop music sent shivers down the spines of all in attendance, as she belted out five tunes in this, her seventh HOB performance. Her set was flawless and her voice was, as always, pristine.  The raw-yet-refined quality of Sharon’s vocal range was, in a single word, breathtaking.  Her years of practice and dedication to honing her craft truly shined through during her inspirational set.  I had the pleasure to sit down with Sharon and her agent-slash-father after her amazing and emotional concert.

Sharon, a native of Burleson, TX, is an accomplished veteran of the stage, began performing when she was just four years old.  Along with dozens of live performances under her belt, Sharon has also produced two music videos.  Her father and Agent, Jesse Baker has coached her the entire way and along with Sharon’s Aunt and vocal coach, Anna Baker, have produced one the best vocalists that DFW has to offer.  Anna Baker, a top-notch coach, is the life-long best friend of Demi Lovato’s mother.

Sharon is currently working on her second album, a seven track EP, and it is scheduled to be released by her publisher, CD Baby, in early May.  Sharon’s album will be available as a physical CD and also will be available in multiple online platforms for download, including iTunes, Amazon and Spotify, among others. She will release a single in April.

This sixteen year old singing prodigy draws her inspiration from her father, a performer himself, and from her favorite band, Paramore.   When asked what was on her ipod she replied: “Paramore, Survey Says,Veronica, Demi Lovato and Megan Trainer”.  Her favorite song to listen to is “Eye of the Needle” and her most beloved performance is her cover of the song “Gravity”, which is available on Soundcloud.

This rising star has a two years left of highschool and plans to relocate to California after graduation. She feels that the west coast offers her the best chance of breaking into the business. When told that she is already well on her way and a star in the minds of many north Texans, Sharon’s humility shined through with a brief smile followed by a long glance down at her feet.
