Train, The Fray & Matt Nathanson hit Dallas, May 29

DSC_1925DALLAS – A long awaited show for many was greeted at Gexa Energy Pavilion with excitement.  Not only was there a phenomenal line up playing; the torrential downpours of late in Texas remained at bay for a beautiful evening.  Temperatures in the lower 80’s, a slight breeze blowing through the crowd and a gorgeous sunset set the ‘stage’ for the night.

Matt Nathanson opened the evening with an eclectic energy to a meager crowd meandering into the pavilion.  For the those that arrived early, they were treated as he romanced his way through his set.   As he prepared to sing “Run”, a song recorded with Sugarland for his seventh album Modern Love, Matt explained that the song was about ‘two consenting adults coming together for a three day weekend to play scrabble’, so the kids weren’t ‘alarmed’.  The crowed laughed, joined in singing and got up from their seats to dance.

With the pavilion nearing a capacity of 20 thousand and the lawn no longer just scattered with a few chairs and DSC_0092blankets, The Fray sauntered on stage innocently to a roar from fans.  Throughout their set they maintained a connection with fans playing favorites such as “Give It Away”, ” The Syndicate”, “Hurricane”, “Love Don’t Die” and “You Found Me”.  Another favorite was a cover of a-ha’s “Take On Me”.  It seemed as if everyone was on their feet dancing to the show.

Finally, the moment most were waiting for; Grammy award winning Train.  This summer’s tour, Picasso At The Wheel, is in support of the band’s seventh album, Bulletproof Picasso, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard Top 200 in September 2014 and earned rave reviews.  Today the band consists of Pat Monahan, Jimmy Stafford, Jerry Becker, Hector Maldonado, Drew Shoals, Nikita Houston and Sakai Smith.  Throughout the bands 20+ year’s fans have remained loyal.  Their set included new hits including “Cadillac DSC_2255Cadillac”, “Bulletproof Picasso”, “Give It All” as well as old favorites such as “Hey, Soul Sister” and “Drops From Jupiter”.

Pat’s vocals were intoxicating as usual.  He was playful with the crowd even making a jaunt to the lawn(GA)area to entertain the unsuspecting fans.  The night finished out with all three groups taking stage at one point bringing everyone to their feet.  No one left disappointed.
