Burton US Open 2019

The Burton US Open came into the town of Vail, CO for another year of amazing riding and we were there to witness the incredible feats first hand. To say that the participants put on a show is a steep understatement. These ladies and gentlemen put on a festival of incredible tricks and complete insanity both on the halfpipe and slopeside circuits. Of course, with the backdrop of the amazing town of Vail, unbeatable snow conditions and a great music line up to add to on-snow action, we were guaranteed a great time.

The halfpipe brought some ridiculously awesome riding both in the female and male division. Scotty James took the first place with an impressive 92.00 score. Scotty put down some impressive switch backside 1080s, backside corks and frontside nosegrabs during his runs. In the end, it would be his first run that would earn him first place. Raibu Katayama took second with a score of 90.49 and Yoto Totsuka took 3rdwith a score of 87.12. The Japanese riders definitively proved to the world that they are a force to be reckoned with and they will bring their A game every run

The slopeside competition was won by non other than Red Gerard. He came into this competition as the man to beat and delivered with a winning score of 80.55. His run was technical and also very stylish. He put down an impressive combination of noseslides and boardslides in the upper section and a gravity defying combination of double and triple corks on the lower section. Sven Thorgren and Mark McMorris came closely in 2ndand 3rdplace. Both riders were exiting to watch and put down some impressive corks, backslides, 50-50s boardslides.

It’s exciting to see the progression of the sport and we are all excited to see who will come out on top on next year’s US Open.
